Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate as Iranian media report multiple explosions across the country. The port city of Bushehr, home to Iran’s nuclear power plant, was targeted by the United States, according to local authorities. “Four points in the city of Bushehr were hit by hostile projectiles at noon” (11:30 AM Greek time), according to the deputy governor of the province, Ehsan Jahanian, as reported by the state-run news agency IRNA.
Barrage of explosions in Iran: Area near the Strait of Hormuz targeted
Meanwhile, Tehran television also reported five explosions near the Strait of Hormuz, in the Bandar Abbas area. “A few minutes ago, five explosions were heard west of Bandar Abbas,” state television reported.

Tanker Stolt Magnesium struck
Notably, a fire broke out aboard the tanker Stolt Magnesium following an onboard explosion while the vessel was sailing off the coast of Oman, as announced by its operator, Stolt Tankers. The Norwegian shipping company Stolt-Nielsen, which owns the tanker, also confirmed the attack. All crew members are reported safe.
Ceasefire officially over
It should be recalled that the ceasefire in the Middle East has officially come to an end, with US President Donald Trump having informed Congress that hostilities with Iran have resumed. Specifically, in a letter to Congressional leadership sent on Friday — obtained by the New York Times on Monday and independently confirmed by Reuters — Trump stated that US forces carried out “defensive strikes against targets inside Iran” on July 7.
According to the letter, as cited by Reuters, “I ordered this military operation pursuant to my authority to protect Americans and United States interests with respect to national security and foreign policy.”
The letter outlines Trump’s actions, including his order for a two-week ceasefire on April 7 — which was subsequently extended — as well as his administration’s efforts to reach a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
Trump also described the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Iran on June 17, noting that Iran had violated it by attacking commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz — a move that prompted him to order new strikes against the Islamic Republic.
