Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias highlighted the significance of the Greek Armed Forces‘ participation in Paris for Bastille Day — 107 years after a Greek military contingent last marched past the Arc de Triomphe to celebrate the Allied victory in World War I. “A marching unit from the Joint Honors Company of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff proudly took part in the parade,” the Defense Minister wrote in a post on X marking France’s national holiday. He also noted that “a pair of Rafale fighter jets from the Hellenic Air Force flew over the skies of the French capital.” In closing, he emphasized that this participation “symbolizes Greece’s timeless contribution to European collective security, the protection of the values of Democracy and Human Rights, and the strong bonds between Greece and France.”
