The Ukrainian government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached an agreement to relax the conditions governing a new lending program worth $8.2 billion (approximately €6.91 billion). This development was announced by the country’s Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, who emphasized the significance of the agreement for Ukrainian economic stability.
According to the Prime Minister’s statements, Ukraine now expects the IMF’s Executive Board to consider this specific program at its next meeting, in order to formally approve the commencement of funding.
The program’s approval by the IMF is considered of decisive importance, as it serves as a “gateway” to activating further international economic assistance. This development is directly linked to the disbursement of a massive €90 billion loan ($106.80 billion) from the European Union, as well as other support packages from international partners who condition their actions on the Fund’s positive assessment.
