NBC news anchor Savannah Guthrie has issued a new public appeal for information regarding the kidnapping of her mother, stating that the family believes she remains alive.
NBC host shocks: “We believe our mother is still out there”
In a video posted to her personal Instagram account, Guthrie stated: “We believe our mother is still out there. We need your help.” According to reports, the appeal came as Monday’s deadline for ransom payment passed, which had been set in exchange for her mother’s safe return, though authorities have not yet identified any suspects.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared during the night from her home in Tucson and was last seen on January 31st. Authorities believe she was taken against her will. The family had announced early on that they were willing to pay money for her safe return.
The FBI announced it has no knowledge of “any ongoing communication between the Guthrie family and the alleged kidnappers,” while offering a $50,000 reward for information that could help the case. Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau stated it is taking seriously an email with a ransom note sent to American news outlets that referenced Monday’s deadline, as reported by CBS News. This followed another ransom payment deadline demanding payment in Bitcoin, which expired on February 5th without results.
Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance was officially reported when she failed to appear at Sunday service on February 1st, which raised concerns among other parish members. Since then, the family has released three additional videos, stating their willingness to communicate with potential kidnappers and requesting proof that their mother is alive.
In the most recent video, Savannah Guthrie appears alone, unlike previous appearances where she was accompanied by her siblings. “I just want to share some thoughts as we enter another week of this nightmare,” she says, adding: “They took her and we don’t know where she is. And we need your help.”
The news anchor appealed to citizens “anywhere, even if they are far away,” to report anything suspicious that could lead to a breakthrough. “If you see something, if you hear something, if there’s anything that seems strange to you, report it to authorities,” she emphasized.
