A case requiring serious examination has emerged following a complaint by a 58-year-old woman alleging rape by a 44-year-old man who is, in fact, her son-in-law, in Limassol, Cyprus. According to reports, the man, a Greek Cypriot, has been arrested. The court approved a five-day detention order to allow investigators to continue their inquiry. The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department is examining charges of rape, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and psychological violence. There is, however, one notable caveat — the 58-year-old woman is reported to be suffering from mental health issues, a factor that investigators have taken into account.

Limassol: The third witness
According to the complainant, the 44-year-old sexually assaulted his mother-in-law on multiple occasions. The woman stated, based on available information, that similar incidents had occurred in the past. She emphasized that the suspect repeatedly pressed her for sexual relations and that her refusals did not stop him from assaulting her. Crucially, it has been reported that a third party witnessed one such incident, and their testimony is expected to be of significant importance to the investigation.
During questioning, the 44-year-old denied committing rape. His claims are currently being evaluated by investigators alongside the 58-year-old’s complaint, the evidence collected, and the results of forensic examinations that have been ordered.
The 58-year-old was examined by a forensic pathologist, and investigators collected material and evidence that has since been sent for laboratory analysis. Police are continuing their investigation with particular sensitivity, given the nature of the case and the vulnerable situation the woman is reported to be in.
Investigation ongoing
The court approved the investigators’ request for a five-day detention of the 44-year-old, ruling that additional time is necessary for taking statements, evaluating evidence, and completing all pending forensic examinations.
