New developments are emerging in the femicide case of the 44-year-old woman in Rodopi, with initial findings painting a devastating picture of the brutality of the attack. According to the first forensic examination results, the woman’s death was caused by a deep stab wound. At the same time, shocking testimonies from the victim’s relatives have come to light, describing a prolonged pattern of abuse that, they emphasize, had been ongoing for some time. Her cousin, speaking to ERTnews, revealed that the victim’s husband had repeatedly threatened her life.

Femicide in Rodopi: “She was very afraid for her children”
“He used to tell her he would kill her — that if she ever left him, she would already be dead. That’s why she was so afraid for her children,” the cousin stated. According to her account, the 44-year-old had been waiting for the completion of the paperwork to obtain Greek identity documents for her children, so that she could leave with them.
The cousin further revealed that family members had been trying to provide the victim with financial support, as her husband allegedly left her without any money. According to the testimony, the threats extended not only to their children but to other family members as well. “He was a sick, obsessive type who monitored her everywhere she went. He was even jealous of her own family members and would not allow her to have contact with anyone.”
She also reported incidents of physical and sexual abuse, adding that the 44-year-old had allegedly kept photographs of her injuries on her phone. The husband, she says, would reportedly smash her phone. Finally, the testimonies of the two younger children — who are currently under the supervision of specialists and police — are expected to play a significant role in the investigation.
