Recently, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that no one can constrain Turkey, commenting on Israeli strikes in Syria — a statement that drew a swift response from Tel Aviv.
Benjamin Netanyahu, reaffirming that Israel will maintain its military presence in Syria for security reasons, ordered a fresh strike yesterday in the Beit Jinn area. The shells were fired from the Golan Heights and targeted a strategically significant hilltop overlooking the town.

Netanyahu’s message: Israel will not tolerate the establishment of a Turkish military presence in Syria
Today, the Israeli prime minister raised the stakes once again with a pointed message directed at both Ankara and Damascus. Netanyahu made clear that Israel will not tolerate the establishment or expansion of a Turkish military presence in Syria, effectively warning that it will take action to prevent it.
“I decided that we would establish a ‘security zone’ in Syria against the possibility of a ‘jihadist invasion’ from the Syrian area. And in northern Syria there is Turkey,” Netanyahu stated in an interview, referring to the Israeli airstrikes that struck the Abu al-Duhur military air base in northwestern Syria.
He added that Turkey “has a certain area there. I do not want to see it coming south. I said this and conveyed it to the ‘Syrian regime’ as well: do not come down, do not let them come south. I also conveyed this to the Turks.”
“There was a certain status quo, but they broke it — or intended to break it. I sent a message — through the Americans, through other channels, but also directly to Syria — that we will not tolerate Turkish military entrenchment at an airport south of where Turkey currently stands.
Apparently that message was not received, and we had to demonstrate it through what we call, in our terminology, kinetic means. So we conveyed it through kinetic means,” he stated, referring to the use of military force.
“When you are strong, you are respected”
“I am not seeking confrontation, but I know one thing: you cannot rely solely on your enemy’s intentions. If you want to defend the State of Israel, you must constantly build capabilities that are stronger than the capabilities of your enemy — and your enemies,” Netanyahu declared.
“Because intentions change. And do you know when they change? When you are weak. They attack you when you are weak, and they respect you when you are strong. They also make peace with the strong.”
“You do not form peace alliances with the weak. Therefore, we must constantly grow stronger.”
“Reality is changing rapidly. One power collapses, another power rises,” he said pointedly about Ankara. “But the most important power that must rise is our own,” he emphasized.
