Having a baby is the deepest desire of Katerina Monogyiou, as she emphasized in her interview on Star television. The New Democracy MP for the Cyclades opened up about her journey to motherhood, describing two rounds of IVF and a heartbreaking pregnancy loss. “I want a baby so much… I really do. From December onwards, I’ll be trying again to get pregnant,” she said, also revealing that she has made a vow to the Virgin Mary at the church in Paros: “I’ve done two rounds of IVF, I lost a baby at 8-9 weeks. It was very difficult. There was an issue with the embryo and the pregnancy didn’t continue… I’m certain I’ll succeed. I’ve made a vow to the Virgin Mary in Paros.”
Katerina Monogyiou: My husband tells me he’ll be there to support me
A career-driven woman, Katerina Monogyiou stresses that motherhood and politics can go hand in hand. However, she revealed that she once had a partner who resented her professional success: “Politics can be combined with family… Work and family can absolutely go together… I’ve had a partner who was unhappy because I was advancing in my career — I left him, of course.”
When it comes to her husband, however, she described a world of difference: “Fortunately, my husband is nothing like that — on the contrary, he tells me he’ll be right there to support me and will come to the islands with me and our baby.”
The loss of Giorgis Monogyiou
Katerina Monogyiou appeared at an event on the evening of Wednesday, October 14th, and spoke about the loss of her brother, Giorgis, who died in a road accident. She noted that the day of the event would have been his birthday. She also shared that she has received deeply moving messages from citizens and that road safety is a top priority for her: “There are messages I’ve received from people that have truly moved me. They’re about road accidents. This issue touches me deeply and personally. This question moves me greatly, because today would have been my brother’s birthday. I want people to know that I will fight with everything I have when it comes to road safety.”
