The application platform for the heating allowance is expected to open on November 10, as announced by Deputy Finance Minister Dimitris Markopoylos during his appearance on ANT1’s morning show “Kalimera Ellada.” Discussing the government’s household support measures, Markopoylos stated that eligible beneficiaries could receive a subsidy of up to €1,560. He also noted that an advance payment to be issued within 2026 will correspond to at least 60% of the total amount.

“We will make every effort to disburse the remaining amount as quickly as possible,” he said. The Deputy Finance Minister acknowledged the difficulties citizens face in securing adequate heating ahead of winter, noting that heating oil prices are significantly higher compared to the same period last year.
As he explained, at the same time last year the price of oil was just above $60 per barrel, whereas Brent crude has now surpassed $100 per barrel.
“The heating allowance covers all forms of energy that a beneficiary may use — not just heating oil. Subsidies will be available for natural gas, firewood, and electricity, for whatever energy source is used for heating,” he clarified. Markopoylos also noted that the income eligibility criteria for receiving the allowance have been broadened this year, and emphasized that “due to government interventions, the price of heating oil in our country remains below the European average.”
