Greece’s Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastaurou held a meeting at the Ministry of Environment and Energy with Joshua Huck, the replacement for Kimberly Guilfoyle as the US Embassy’s top representative in Athens, and Republican Senator Rick Scott of Florida. The meeting focused on the Vertical Corridor energy initiative, the activity of American companies in Greece’s hydrocarbons sector, and a range of broader energy policy issues.
Papastaurou: Greece-US relations are at a historic high
The Minister of Environment and Energy shared details of the meeting’s agenda in a social media post. “Today we had the pleasure of welcoming to the Ministry’s ‘Stefanos Manos’ Hall Republican Senator from the State of Florida, Senator Rick Scott, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Greece, Mr. Joshua Huck, and their respective delegations, with whom we discussed matters of shared interest and mutual benefit.
We exchanged views on the importance of the 3+1 cooperation framework between Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the United States, as well as the Vertical Corridor initiative, on the presence and activity of the two largest US energy companies — Chevron and ExxonMobil — in Greece’s hydrocarbons development, on the data center regulatory framework currently out for public consultation by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, on the challenges posed by the global energy crisis, and on Greece’s role as a pillar of stability and energy security in the broader Eastern Mediterranean region.
Senator Rick Scott was among the key architects of the Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act of 2019, which serves as the cornerstone of strategic cooperation in our region, formally institutionalizing US participation in the trilateral mechanism of Greece, Cyprus, and Israel — the 3+1 format.
Greece-US relations are at a historic high, with energy standing as one of the strongest pillars of that partnership. We continue moving forward together, through concrete projects and tangible results, for the benefit of our country and its citizens,” Minister Papastaurou stated.
