A union representative who had verbally attacked Adonis Georgiadis during the Health Minister’s visit to hospitals in Ptolemaida and Kozani — accusing him of dismantling Greece’s National Health System (ESY) — has since sent a thank-you letter to the Bodosakeio Hospital of Ptolemaida and the local EKAB (National Emergency Medical Service). According to the Health Minister, the same union representative praised the hospital and emergency services for their “impeccable operation” following the hospitalization of his own father.

Georgiadis: That’s Greece’s health system — they criticize it until they need it themselves
“That’s how it is with the national health system: they criticize it, they shout about its shortcomings, about the ‘bad Health Minister’ and everything else — until the moment they need it themselves. Then they realize the tremendous progress that has been made,” Georgiadis stated pointedly, while also sharing a video of the union representative’s earlier remarks — in which he had called the ministerial delegation unwelcome during its visit to the Ptolemaida hospital.

“I recently visited Western Macedonia to attend various inauguration ceremonies at health centers and the hospitals of Kozani and Ptolemaida. There, one of the well-known left-wing union representatives made statements against my visit, claiming the national health system was being dismantled.
Today, however, that same person posted a thank-you letter addressed to the Bodosakeio Hospital of Ptolemaida and the local EKAB, praising their exemplary service — which he witnessed firsthand during his father’s hospitalization.
That’s the national health system for you: they condemn it and cry about its failures and the ‘bad Health Minister,’ and so on — until they need it themselves… and then they see the great progress that has been achieved. I wish his father a speedy recovery.”
