The issue of integrating the countries of the Western Balkans into the European Union was the subject of today’s session of the National Foreign Policy Council. Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, who chaired the session, analyzed to party representatives and international relations experts participating in the meeting Athens’ strategy for the accession process of neighboring countries. A basic priority on his agenda is upgrading Athens’ leadership role in the region, functioning as a stable “bridge” for the integration of neighboring states into the European family.

Greek-Turkish relations and “Blue Homeland” at the center of questions
However, according to reliable sources, the head of Greek diplomacy received many questions from almost all party representatives about developments in Greek-Turkish relations focusing on the upcoming submission of the “Blue Homeland” bill to the Turkish National Assembly. Mr. Gerapetritis, according to the same sources, appeared reassuring regarding the management of the issue, confirming that our country has taken all necessary measures and has made all the moves to address any unilateral action by Turkey. However, so far there is no official information about the content of the bill. The common assessment is that the bill is expected to be submitted to the Turkish National Assembly in early June.
Who participated in the National Foreign Policy Council session
Representatives of all parliamentary parties participated in the session: for New Democracy, Stefanos Gkikas and Panos Stathopoulos attended, for PASOK-Movement for Change, Charidimos Dimakareas and Dimitris Mantzos, while from SYRIZA, Rena Dourou and Rania Svigou were present. Additionally, New Left was represented by Sia Anagnostopoulou, Course of Freedom by Alexandros Kazamias, and Victory by Anastasios Oikonomopoulos and Ioannis Intzes.
