When “Parapolitika” contacted Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis requesting a statement about the notorious “Blue Homeland” law expected to reach the Turkish National Assembly for voting next month, the debate – both within and beyond borders – about its exact content had not yet intensified. Given that only journalistic leaks from pro-government media in the neighboring country have been published so far, rather than official statements from Turkish officials, there’s a sense that perhaps Ankara might be “bluffing” or at least testing Athens’ reactions before settling on a potentially more moderate final text. Time will tell.
Gerapetritis message: “No concessions on our national rights”
Mr. Gerapetritis speaks exclusively to “Parapolitika” and clarifies how the Greek side is moving and intends to move forward.
“In today’s global circumstances, undoubtedly the worst since World War II, no one can question the value of regional peace and the need to dialogue with our neighbors, even if we have substantial differences. The solution to the shaken international security architecture is not more wars. Greece, having secured the necessary time through ‘calm waters,’ is today at the peak of its diplomatic power and defense capability. Without concessions on our national rights, we present arguments in official international forums that have never been presented before and we build alliances of multiplicative power. With these weapons we respond to any attempt to harm our rights. Even to actions without any substance that futilely attempt to make wishes into International Law. And we do it effectively, proactively and suppressively, without unnecessary boasting. Anyone who doesn’t understand this is simply selfishly turning a blind eye.”
