A serious road accident occurred on the morning of Sunday (19/7) in Chania, following a collision between a National Emergency Medical Service (EKAV) ambulance and a private vehicle, resulting in two paramedics being trapped, one of them seriously injured, and the driver of the private car sustaining minor injuries. Additionally, the patient being transported — who was suffering from cardiac arrest — did not survive.

Shocking crash in Chania: Ambulance collides with private car, two injured
According to parakritika.gr, the accident took place on Mournion Avenue, when an EKAV ambulance transporting a patient — who had suffered a cardiac arrest and was reportedly already deceased — collided with a passing passenger vehicle. The impact was extremely violent, causing the ambulance to overturn.
As a result, both paramedics sustained injuries, with the one riding in the rear of the vehicle suffering more serious harm. The driver of the private car, who had just finished her shift at the hospital, was also injured. The Fire Service responded to the scene with three vehicles to assist in freeing those trapped. Firefighters extracted the patient being transported by the ambulance, who was found unconscious.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are currently being investigated by the relevant authorities.
