Until Monday, June 15, taxpayers have the opportunity to submit their E1 return to secure a 3% discount, provided the tax is paid in full by July 31. For returns submitted from June 16 to July 15, the discount is reduced to 2%, while the deadline for submitting tax returns expires on July 15, 2026.
According to the latest official data from the Greek Tax Authority (AADE), by June 10, 2026, 4.7 million E1 returns and 770,000 E3 returns from professionals and farmers had been submitted.
With exactly one month remaining until the deadline for individuals, approximately 2 million households have not yet submitted their income tax return.
Specifically, based on the 2026 tax return submission schedule:
- 4% discount secured by those who have already submitted their initial return by May 15 and pay the tax in full by July 31
- 3% discount will be available for those submitting returns from May 16 to June 15, provided they choose lump sum payment by 7/31/2026.
- 2% discount applies to those submitting E1 forms from June 16 to 7/15/2026, again with lump sum payment by 7/31/2026.
Regarding payment, income tax is paid either in full or in up to eight monthly installments, with the first due by Friday, July 31, 2026, and the last installment at the end of February.
Tax returns 2026: Average additional tax 1,785 euros
Of the cleared returns issued so far, 1 in 3 tax assessments have resulted in additional charges (approximately 1.5 million or 32.3%) with the average additional tax amount reaching 1,785 euros. This translates to an average discount of 53 euros for those submitting by Monday and paying in full. A smaller discount (35 euros) will apply to those submitting from Tuesday, June 16 onwards, while double the discount (70 euros) was secured by those who submitted by May 15 and pay the tax before the end of July.
On the flip side, however, equally high this year is the percentage of tax assessments that result in refunds (31.7%) with the average refund amount taxpayers receive reaching approximately 290 euros. The remaining returns (36%) result in zero balance, with no payment obligation or tax refund due.
Attention to amended returns
Special attention is required for 2024 retroactive payments. The Tax Authority has opened the myAADE platform application for submitting amended returns concerning retroactive salary and pension payments from 2024, with a deadline until December 31, 2026. These amounts may appear in the 2026 income statement for 2025 income, but must be declared separately in the tax year to which they relate and not in the year of payment.
Another point requiring verification concerns pre-filled and pre-cleared returns for employees and pensioners. The Tax Authority had proceeded in May with the automated submission of 889,036 pre-cleared returns, covering a total of 999,523 individuals (tax ID numbers). However, responsibility for the accuracy of the data remains with the taxpayer, who must verify the pre-filled data and correct it if necessary.
Taxpayers should also note that if they identify omissions or inaccuracies in their pre-filled return data, they can proceed with an amended return without penalties until July 15, 2026.
