Serious incidents and scenes of panic erupted in north London when hundreds of people became trapped at the entrance gate of the Ghana Party in the Park festival, resulting in multiple injuries caused by the intense crowd crush.

Early shutdown and denial of stabbing reports
Due to the dangerous situation and the injuries sustained, event organizers made the immediate decision to shut down the festival entirely, prioritizing the safety of attendees. Local authorities also moved quickly to clarify that early reports of knife attacks were entirely false and did not reflect what had actually occurred on the ground.
According to the Daily Mail, the incident took place at Copthall Playing Fields in the Barnet area of north London, where the annual cultural festival celebrating London’s Ghanaian community was being held. Authorities confirmed that attendance far exceeded the venue’s capacity, leading to a dangerous and chaotic crush at the entrance gates.
Several people sustained injuries as a result of the crushing and trampling, though initial reports indicate that none of the injuries are life-threatening. Footage captured at the scene shows a major emergency response effort, with ambulances, rescue vehicles, and air ambulance helicopters all deployed to the festival grounds.

Eyewitnesses on the scene described harrowing scenes of chaos, with rescue workers carrying injured festival-goers out on stretchers.
An 18-year-old attendee described the situation as “extremely chaotic,” stating that the event had been “very poorly organized.”
Another visitor reported that thousands of people had been unable to enter the venue since early afternoon, estimating that around 1,000 people remained gathered outside the gates. He also noted that two air ambulance helicopters were involved in transporting the injured.

Organizers announce permanent closure of the event
In an official statement released on Saturday evening, organizers explained that the decision to immediately shut down the festival was made solely on health and safety grounds.
They confirmed that units from the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade had responded to the scene, and that following consultation with the relevant emergency services, evacuation and full closure of the event was determined to be the safest course of action to protect those in attendance.
Earlier in the day, organizers had announced that the festival was being temporarily paused due to a “serious incident” and urged the public not to approach the area.
Police respond to stabbing and fatality rumors
In the aftermath of the incident, reports of stabbings and fatalities began circulating widely on social media. However, both the event organizers and the Metropolitan Police categorically denied these claims.
Police clarified that the cancellation of the event was caused solely by the extreme overcrowding at the entrance, which resulted in a number of people sustaining minor injuries. Authorities also issued a public appeal urging people to avoid the area.
Ghana Party in the Park has been running since 2005 and is widely regarded as the largest outdoor Ghanaian community event held outside of Africa, attracting more than 8,000 visitors each year. The festival is dedicated to celebrating Ghanaian music, culture, cuisine, and fashion.
