An alert was raised yesterday at the Strait of Hormuz following an explosion reported near an oil tanker, with the British maritime security agency UKMTO confirming that no injuries occurred.

In more detail, the explosion occurred on Sunday in close proximity to an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz area, as announced in the early hours of Monday by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) — the British maritime security and safety agency operating under the Ministry of Defence — which clarified that there were no casualties.
According to the agency, the vessel’s captain reported that the crew “heard an explosion very close to the ship,” however “the vessel and crew were reported safe.” The cause of the explosion was not specified. The incident took place 20 nautical miles (37 kilometers) northwest of the city of Khasab in the Sultanate of Oman.
