The investigation into the collision of two BELL-type helicopters — which occurred on Sunday (2/8) during a wildfire suppression operation in the Psatha area of Attica — has been assigned to the Organized Crime Division of the Hellenic Police. The tragic incident claimed the lives of both the pilot and the coordinator aboard one of the aircraft.
How the investigation was handed to Greece’s FBI
According to the Hellenic Police, following notification of the competent prosecutor, the preliminary investigation was formally assigned to the Hellenic Police to determine the circumstances and causes of the incident. Specifically, the prosecutor contacted Police Headquarters the day prior and issued the order to launch the investigation. This morning, Police Chief Lieutenant General Dimitris Mallios officially assigned the case to Greece’s so-called “Greek FBI” — the Organized Crime Division.
The scene of the incident has been cordoned off
Police authorities confirmed that all required preliminary investigative procedures are currently underway. The site of the crash has been fully cordoned off and is under active guard by police units. Upon completion of the investigation, the compiled case file will be submitted to the competent prosecutorial authority.
