A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck in the early hours of Monday (3/8) near the capital of Egypt, Cairo. The powerful seismic tremor was felt across numerous Egyptian cities, reaching as far as Alexandria.

Epicenter located near Suez

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck at 3:00 a.m. local time, registering a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located near Suez, approximately 100 kilometers east of Cairo and 41 kilometers northeast of Suez, based on USGS data.

Egypt’s National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics also confirmed that the tremor was felt by residents of Alexandria, located roughly 200 kilometers northwest of Cairo.
