Alexis Tsipras will engage with citizens of Nikaia tonight, following the model of the Unmute Now events held with young people in Athens and Thessaloniki. Under the main slogan “Now We Speak,” the former prime minister will listen to citizens’ problems and views at August 17th Square at 7:30 PM.
“The floor goes to the citizens. The time has come for people who live and work beside us, in Athens neighborhoods, to have their say. The voice of the city is the concerns of people who live there, and the Greek Left Coalition wants to hear it,” coalition officials from Amalia stated, adding: “Citizens’ voices, society’s voice is at the center of discussions on issues and problems, opening dialogue that will lead to a change in the country’s direction. Not simply political change, but a change in politics.”
Alexis Tsipras: The new ELAS campaign launches from Nikaia
As the same sources emphasized, the Coalition dares to break stereotypes so society can be heard. “Because political discourse doesn’t only come from politicians’ podiums, but also from working people, employees, youth, pensioners, small business owners – all those who in recent years haven’t been able to lift their heads due to repeated crises: pandemic, inflation, unemployment, wars, as well as anxiety, uncertainty and overall insecurity about tomorrow. Meanwhile, the government constructs communication narratives about ‘stability’ to cover its scandalous support for a small elite of economic interests,” they characteristically stated.
As Alexis Tsipras’ associates noted, “ELAS wants to hear people who work endless hours, often without breaks and for successive employers, to secure the absolute necessities – and even those with difficulty – while often risking even their lives. They are constantly in a daily survival race that becomes increasingly difficult. The time has come to break the stereotype of passive participation and recreate a new relationship of trust. However, a basic prerequisite is that the relationship with politics shouldn’t be exhausted by applause and voting once every 4 years. Society must be heard. That’s why ELAS reverses the roles. Now citizens speak. Now society speaks. Now we all speak together.”
Who enters the shadow cabinet
Meanwhile, the first evaluation of new officials representing Alexis Tsipras’ party has been completed. According to sources, these officials’ image is particularly satisfactory in society, as citizens appear lenient even with their mistakes. The same measurements showed that voters clearly prefer the new unknown faces over SYRIZA government officials, even successful ministers.
Based on these results, Alexis Tsipras is preparing to present his own shadow cabinet within the week, reportedly coordinated by Kostas Gavroglu. Giorgos Chouliarakis may become Economics sector head with Eugenia Fotoniatou as deputy, while the Development sector will include people from the market who know business world problems firsthand.
