The process of providing explanations began today for non-political individuals allegedly involved in the case concerning illegal subsidies granted by the organization during 2021-2022. According to sources, high-ranking former OPEKEPE officials, former presidents, directors, auditors, and farmers who have been summoned as suspects for breach of trust (as direct perpetrators of acts attributed to political figures) and other offenses, did not appear in person before the European prosecutors but requested and received a deadline to submit their written explanations by June 5.
The explanations from the implicated individuals to the Greek-appointed European prosecutors are expected to be completed in the coming period, after which the case file will be evaluated by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the further criminal development of the case – whether criminal prosecution procedures will proceed or the case will be archived, possibly for some of the involved persons.
Tomorrow, 11 New Democracy MPs have been summoned to provide unsworn explanations, for whom the Parliament’s Plenary decided to lift their immunity, while other political figures who were not called for today will also cross the threshold of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
According to sources, Kostas Karamanlis and Katerina Papakosta have been called to provide explanations for felony charges, while Kostas Tsiaras, Notis Mitarakis, Dimitris Vartzopoulos, Maximos Senetakis, Theofilos Leontaridis, Kostas Skrekas, Vasilis Vasiliadis, Christos Boukoros, and Giannis Kefalogiannakis have been summoned for misdemeanor charges.
