The parents of 39-year-old Fanouris Kargakis are expected to appear before the prosecutor today, Monday, January 26, following a new incident of tension recorded in Vorizia that has reignited the dispute between the two families involved in the bloody incident of last autumn.
According to information from Giorgos Somolou, the two defendants were arrested following a lawsuit filed by the sister of Evangelia Fragiadaki. Increased police forces remain in the area, while charges have been filed against them and forwarded to the Heraklion Prosecutor’s Office. The two families had agreed not to disturb each other, but the sister of the murdered Evangelia claims that recently the parents of Fanouris have been threatening her.
The competent prosecutor has pressed charges and ordered their referral to immediate trial.
It remains possible that the father of 39-year-old Fanouris Kargakis may not appear in court, as he is hospitalized under guard at the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI) following a coronavirus diagnosis. This situation may affect the proceedings of today’s trial.
