The body of Ali Khamenei has been transferred to the holy city of Qom, where the final phase of the funeral ceremony will take place ahead of his burial. The arrival of the coffin marks the final chapter of a multi-day farewell process that drew tens of thousands of citizens into the streets of Tehran, unfolding under tight security measures. Iran’s state television broadcast footage of the helicopter carrying the coffin landing, announcing that “the body of the martyred leader has arrived in Qom,” where funeral ceremonies will continue from tomorrow morning before the burial.
Khamenei: Tens of thousands accompany the funeral procession
From the early morning hours, tens of thousands of people flooded the central boulevards of Tehran to accompany the coffin of the former Supreme Leader. Drone footage broadcast by state television captured a vast human river following the funeral procession. Khamenei’s coffin, along with those of four of his family members, had been placed on a specially adapted truck that slowly made its way through the streets of the capital. High temperatures in the area made conditions difficult for the gathered crowds. For this reason, authorities used fire hoses to spray water over the crowd in order to ease the effects of the unbearable heat.

Anti-US and anti-Israel chants and reactions
Intense political reactions erupted during the procession. As the cortege passed beneath a Tehran overpass, citizens hurled stones at a billboard depicting US President Donald Trump with a bullet wound to the head. The billboard bore the slogan: “The US killed our father. We will not let you escape.” Meanwhile, groups of protesters burned American and British flags, while several women, dressed in black and wearing chadors, held red placards bearing the slogan “Kill Trump.” Posters also appeared along the route depicting Donald Trump, US Vice President JD Vance, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with their faces in the crosshairs of a weapon.

Burial in the holy city of Qom
Qom is one of Iran’s most important religious centers, and the choice of the city for the burial of the former Supreme Leader carries profound symbolic weight. Iranian authorities have implemented heightened security measures, as large numbers of citizens are expected to continue arriving to pay their final respects to Khamenei. The ceremonies are set to conclude with his burial in the holy city, while today’s procession confirmed both the enormous public turnout and the deeply charged political atmosphere that prevailed throughout the proceedings.
