Pakistan: How the bomber who attacked the train operated
According to sources, a suicide bomber believed to have acted alone drove a vehicle packed with explosives into a train carrying military personnel in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. The explosion occurred along a railway line as the train was heading toward the city’s cantonment area. Officials said the blast was powerful enough to be heard several kilometers away.
Among the victims were civilians, with many houses near the railway line and numerous vehicles suffering extensive damage from the explosion. The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility in a statement to local media, saying that a suicide bomber attacked military personnel. Heavy gunfire was also reported after the explosion, while authorities declared a state of emergency at several hospitals in Quetta.
Balochistan, a mineral-rich region and a key route for the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, has long faced militant violence linked to separatist groups.
