One photograph: for the man who created the most explicit social media platform, OnlyFans, namely 43-year-old Leonid Radvinsky, it’s paradoxical that only one pose of him exists on the internet. Smiling, with his arms crossed. Paradoxical – and it’s not the only contradiction. The billionaire was struck by cancer and died young, leaving behind a legacy and inheritance. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Leo Radvinsky. Leo passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer,” said an OnlyFans spokesperson: “His family has requested respect for their privacy during this difficult time.” The dreaded disease struck him just as he was about to reach a multi-billion dollar agreement for the sale of the platform. Indeed, the “Financial Times” highlighted that dividends of $701 million, distributed in 2025, were a historic high.
OnlyFans: A modest tycoon
OnlyFans is considered the most realistic pornographic medium of all time. However, its leader was someone who didn’t want to be seen. The Ukrainian-American entrepreneur was born in 1982 in Odessa. From this historic city, especially significant for Greece, he amassed a fortune of $7.8 billion, according to “Forbes.” In fact, it was considered certain that he would multiply this from the sale. From early on, he had focused on adult content. From the late 1990s, he created Cybertania, a company that provided links and access codes for websites, earning money from each click. Subsequently, he founded MyFreeCams, one of the most successful adult cam sites. His big leap, however, came in 2018, when he acquired 75% of OnlyFans, a platform created in 2016 by British entrepreneur Tim Stokeley with a $10,000 loan from his father.
The original idea of OnlyFans was to connect artists with their audience. However, the subscription model and content freedom quickly transformed it into a thriving hub for amateur pornography. The pandemic served as a catalyst: within one year, the user base skyrocketed from 20 to over 120 million, while revenue increased by 553%. Today, the United States remains the largest market for the platform, with revenues of $863 million in 2023.
The London-based company attempts to broaden its profile by attracting personal trainers, artists, comedians, and musicians, with the business model remaining the same: a 20% commission from each subscription. The massive growth brought Radvinsky immense profits. From 2021 to early 2025, he had received dividends worth $1.8 billion, while just in August he collected another $598.4 million from Fenix International, OnlyFans’ umbrella company. Despite the controversial nature of his business activity, Radvinsky cultivated an image as a philanthropist. He claimed to dedicate a “large part of time, effort, and money” to non-profit activities. In 2022, he donated $5 million for Ukraine, for cancer research, for animal protection organizations, and for the study of skin diseases.
Thus, Leonid Radvinsky was a contradictory figure: on one hand, a reclusive pornography billionaire who set up one of the world’s most profitable websites; on the other, a philanthropist who claimed he wanted to return a large part of his wealth to society. Mysterious, controversial but undeniably influential, he stayed away from the spotlight while his creation redefined the boundaries of the digital entertainment economy.
