Shocking footage has emerged showing the moment an unknown individual sets fire to a car belonging to the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Zografou, which was parked in the ground-floor garage of an apartment building. The incident took place on Monday evening, with the perpetrator caught on a security camera as he approached the building.

As seen in the footage released by ERT, the perpetrator has his face covered and is carrying a bottle of petrol and a cloth. He walks toward the deputy mayor’s vehicle and sets it alight, while a passerby happens to walk through the area at the same moment. According to reports, the deputy mayor was unable to move his vehicle in time and narrowly escaped danger.
The fire also destroyed two motorcycles belonging to the deputy mayor, while the apartment building itself sustained significant damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Deputy mayor of Zografou Kostas Pitsios speaks out
Kostas Pitsios, deputy mayor of Zografou, shared video footage of the burned vehicles in his building’s garage on social media.
In his post, he addressed the violent incident:
“Thank you all for your concern. I will deal with this too. It is deeply upsetting — they burned 2 motorcycles, 1 car, 3 air conditioning outdoor units, damaged the building’s paintwork, awnings, garage floor tiles, ground-floor windows, electricity meters and the meter cabinet door, and all shared spaces will need to be cleaned, and so on and so forth. A serious repair and damage cost, caused by someone careless enough to leave traces of the arson they committed.
The police will assess the evidence collected, and I believe we will identify the 2 perpetrators soon. That’s life — it has its dark side when people make mistakes.”
