Following the death of Afroditi Nestora’s mother, who lost her life at the age of 72 after the deadly arson attack on their home in Thessaloniki, members and supporters of New Democracy gathered on Thursday afternoon (02/07) outside the Hippokration General Hospital of Thessaloniki. “We unite our voices against terrorism,” reads a statement from New Democracy, with the scenes outside the hospital evoking deep emotion as some lit candles in memory of the tragically lost Vagia Nestora. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Nestora family,” the party’s members stated.

In an official statement, New Democracy said: “The day after the tragic loss of Vagia Nestora, following yesterday’s deadly attack on the homes of three of our party members in Thessaloniki, all of us at New Democracy are filled with profound grief and unwavering resolve.
Our party’s great family is in mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Nestora family — with Afroditi, her father, and their loved ones.
Today, at 7 in the evening, outside Hippokration General Hospital, members, officials, and friends of New Democracy and ONNED gathered to honor the memory of Afroditi’s beloved mother and to unite our voices against terrorism.
We will all be there. We are not afraid of you.”














Update on the condition of those injured
New Democracy politician Afroditi Nestora was transferred from Hippokration to Papanikolaou Hospital, where she is being treated for extensive first- and second-degree burns to her hands and feet sustained during the arson attack on her home in the Analipsi neighborhood. She is currently receiving care in the Burns Unit at Papanikolaou Hospital, where doctors are prioritizing treatment of the burns to her hands. It has been confirmed that she is breathing without assistance.
Her father, Panagiotis Nestoras, who is being treated in the Pulmonology Department at Hippokration Hospital due to respiratory problems he suffered following the attack, is expected to be discharged tomorrow. A resident of the apartment building where the attack took place is also being treated in the same department and is likewise expected to be discharged tomorrow.
A fourth resident has already been discharged from the Pulmonology Department but was subsequently transferred to the Coronary Care Unit at Hippokration due to cardiac complications.
