Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Nea Smyrni on Friday afternoon, kicking off his tour at Milon Camp — a summer program run by the historic local sports club “O Milon,” where children take part in athletic and creative activities every day. Mitsotakis walked through the sports courts, chatted with the kids about their favorite sports and the teams they’re rooting for in the FIFA World Cup, and encouraged them to stay active with their friends. He also advised them not to spend too much time staring at their phone screens.

The Prime Minister then stopped by a café where members of a local backgammon club regularly meet. He joined in on the conversation and sat down for a game of backgammon with the regulars. The visit wrapped up with a leisurely walk along the commercial streets of Nea Smyrni, giving Mitsotakis the chance to speak with local shop owners and residents.
Mitsotakis took photos and exchanged words with dozens of citizens he encountered along the way, before stopping in at a central café on Omiros Street.
Several citizens wished the New Democracy leader strength ahead of what could be a lengthy pre-election period, with Mitsotakis urging them to stay ready and wishing everyone a great summer.
“Are you all doing well? Everything good? Ready for summer?” he asked a group of people sitting at the café. When they turned the question back on him, asking whether he himself was ready for summer, Mitsotakis replied: “We don’t get a summer — we just keep running. […] Recharge your batteries this summer. […] I can see you’re all fired up and ready to go — that’s exactly what we need.”
