Pavlos Polakis launched a scathing attack against the leadership of SYRIZA, and more specifically against Sokrates Famellos, after walking out early from a Central Committee session and denouncing what he described as the party’s strategic dead end. According to Polakis, the political course being pursued by the SYRIZA leader regarding a progressive realignment of the left is leading the party toward irrelevance and self-humiliation. He argued that the only way out of the crisis gripping SYRIZA is the immediate convening of a new Central Committee with the aim of reversing the previous decision. At the same time, Polakis sent a clear message to SYRIZA president Sokrates Famellos, demanding that he officially contact Alexis Tsipras in order to clarify whether the former prime minister is willing to cooperate or not.

Pavlos Polakis’ statement following the SYRIZA Political Secretariat session
“I was forced to leave before the session ended. What I want to say is that, unfortunately, the strategic dead end of the political direction currently being followed by the SYRIZA president — based on the Central Committee’s decision regarding the progressive realignment of the left and the party’s future course — has now been confirmed.
I believe the only solution — and there is no other — is for a new Central Committee to be convened and for the decision we made to be changed. There is no other way forward for this political space, because it is simply not possible, when the Greek Left Alliance issues a statement of a strategic nature — and that is their right — saying that they will not cooperate with parties, will not cooperate with sitting MPs, and so on, that they only engage with individuals and personalities who come without the baggage of their official roles — for us to keep insisting that within this space…
I made it very clear to President Sokrates Famellos: “Have you officially spoken with Alexis Tsipras to get his confirmation on whether he will or will not cooperate? Because if that does not happen…
We cannot allow this situation of irrelevance, self-humiliation, and disintegration to continue — it simply cannot go on. They have brought us so low…
So there must be a Central Committee session, and the decision must be changed.”
— Will you submit a formal request for a Central Committee meeting?
— “Yes, of course, and requests will be submitted.”
Meanwhile, according to sources, 71 signatures that have been collected in support of reconvening SYRIZA’s Central Committee are expected to be formally submitted today.
