New evidence is emerging in the death of Giorgos Mazonakis, as a release request is being prepared for the 58-year-old doctor who, along with his 56-year-old wife, is currently being held at Korydallos Prison. At the center of the case is the testimony of a patient who claims to have been with the 58-year-old at his clinic during the critical timeframe, while authorities are also examining the close professional relationship between the 56-year-old doctor and a hypnotherapist, a photo of the singer sent from the plasmapheresis chair, and the couple’s financial affairs.

Giorgos Mazonakis death: The patient supporting the 58-year-old’s alibi
According to information from Live News, the defense attorney for the two doctors is expected to file a release request exclusively for the 58-year-old, arguing that he bore no responsibility for the singer’s death. The doctor has denied any involvement from the very beginning and has launched a hunger strike, as he had previously stated he would do if remanded in custody. The defense strategy rests, among other things, on the claim that the 58-year-old was not present in the room where the plasmapheresis procedure was being carried out, as he had first been dining at a restaurant in the Kolonaki area before attending an appointment with another patient.
That particular patient told Live News that he arrived at the clinic at 3:30 p.m. and that up until 4:06 p.m. — when he received the electronic referral for his tests on his mobile phone — he had not noticed anything out of the ordinary. “I arrived at the clinic at 3:30. I’ve been there five or six times before — I’m a patient of the 58-year-old. He has a machine that assesses your general health condition as a diagnostic tool. When I arrived, everything was calm. I didn’t notice anything concerning. The referral message for my tests came through at 4:06. Up until that point, everything was quiet. We were talking with the doctor and he was going to write me a referral for another test,” he said.
He then described hearing a voice calling out to the doctor, followed by a sudden commotion. “At that point, a voice called out to him and he left the room. There was a disturbance. About six or seven minutes later, I heard someone say that an ambulance needed to be called. The receptionist then informed me that an emergency had arisen and told me we’d have to stop and that they would contact me again. So I left.” He added that as he was leaving, he saw an ambulance heading toward the clinic, and clarified that he had never undergone any treatment with the 56-year-old doctor.
The 56-year-old’s collaboration with the hypnotherapist
Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the relationship between the 56-year-old doctor and a hypnotherapist, who is expected to testify on Monday, September 21. According to Live News, the hypnotherapist had a scheduled appointment with Giorgos Mazonakis following the plasmapheresis session. He and the 56-year-old are reported to have worked together for years, frequently referring clients to one another, with investigators now looking into whether one of the two had referred the singer to the other. The hypnotherapist is the individual who received on his mobile phone the photograph of Giorgos Mazonakis sitting in the plasmapheresis chair with his eyes closed. The 56-year-old doctor accompanied the photo with the message “all good!” He has refused to speak publicly about the message and the image, stating that everything he knows will be disclosed to the authorities.
The damaging detail from the doctors’ past
At the same time, according to Live News, an investigation into the two doctors’ finances is currently underway. In addition to the criminal inquiry into the circumstances of the singer’s death and the prosecutorial investigation involving the Athens Medical Association, a separate probe has been launched at the directive of the head of Greece’s Anti-Money Laundering Authority. According to the same report, the investigation was triggered following the discovery of a significant piece of evidence from the two doctors’ past, the details of which have not yet been made public.
Investigators are also examining reports of financial activity and potentially undeclared income. Ioanna Mandrou reported to Live News that the Authority implied that, beyond their medical practice, the two defendants appear to have been engaged in other undisclosed activities — the nature of which has not been specified so as not to compromise the ongoing investigation. Should any undeclared funds be identified, the report indicates that asset freezing measures may follow, along with the referral of the relevant case file to the Public Prosecutor’s office.
