New details are emerging about the femicide in Rodopi, where a 53-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 44-year-old wife to death inside the family home in the settlement of Dialampi, before attempting to take his own life. The case has also drawn the attention of Albanian media outlets, which are reporting information about the identities of the victim and the alleged perpetrator, as well as the events that reportedly unfolded before and after the crime. According to information from Top Channel, the victim has been identified as 44-year-old Esma M., while the alleged perpetrator is named as her 53-year-old husband, Bujar M.

Femicide in Rodopi: What Albanian media are reporting
Top Channel reports that the murder was preceded by a violent argument between the couple. According to the report, the two were allegedly quarreling in front of their children when, under circumstances that have not yet been fully clarified, the 53-year-old attacked his 44-year-old wife with a knife, inflicting fatal wounds. Immediately afterward, the suspect allegedly attempted to end his own life by drinking fuel, while, according to information from Greece, he also self-inflicted knife wounds. The man was transported to hospital, where he remains under medical care. At the crime scene, police officers seized two knives, which are currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The victim’s 2022 police complaint
Authorities are also scrutinizing the couple’s past, as an incident involving the two was recorded four years ago in Heraklion, Crete. In 2022, the 44-year-old had filed a police complaint against her husband for making threats. The 53-year-old was arrested in connection with that case and was brought before the competent prosecutor. Investigations are continuing in order to fully clarify the circumstances surrounding the femicide and the events that had previously taken place within the family.
