METLEN has announced that it is strengthening the position of its Energy Division’s M RESET arm in the battery energy storage systems (BESS) sector, delivering significant projects and milestones across the United Kingdom, Italy, and Greece — reaffirming the company’s growing presence in large-scale grid energy storage infrastructure.

Contract signed with Pulse Clean Energy
In the United Kingdom, METLEN recently signed a Balance of Plant (BoP) contract with Pulse Clean Energy for the landmark Penn BESS project — a 129 MW facility located in the West Midlands region with an installed battery capacity of 362 MWh. This marks the largest energy storage project the company has undertaken in the country to date, in terms of storage capacity.
METLEN’s scope of work on the project also includes grid connection works, a critical component for integrating renewable energy into the network. Energization of the facility is expected by the end of 2027.
Strengthening METLEN’s footprint
This landmark project, the announcement notes, further strengthens METLEN’s footprint in battery energy storage delivery across the United Kingdom as the country’s energy landscape continues to evolve. In total, METLEN has completed or is currently delivering approximately 30 battery storage units in the UK — including hybrid projects and solar-plus-storage combinations — with a combined capacity of nearly 2 GWh, in partnership with leading industry players.
It is worth noting that Pulse Clean Energy is a rapidly growing British battery energy storage development and operations group, with an expanding portfolio of projects contributing to the decarbonization of the electricity system and enabling greater integration of renewable energy generation. The company holds one of the largest battery storage portfolios in the UK, with a current operational capacity of 400 MWh, an additional 400 MWh under construction, and a target of reaching 2 GWh by 2030.
Long-term financing secured for project in Italy
In Italy, METLEN has secured long-term financing of €18 million for a 25 MW / 75 MWh BESS project in Apulia, in the province of Brindisi. The project has been brought to full operation within the year and is supported by a seven-year Physical Tolling Agreement with the Dolomiti Energia Group. This long-term financing agreement is among the first of its kind in the Italian energy storage market and reflects an advanced commercial model already well established at the European level.
METLEN has been active in the Italian market since 2017, steadily expanding its presence across the country. Today, the company holds a diversified portfolio in Italy comprising approximately 3 GWh of energy storage capacity.
Greece’s largest standalone battery energy storage facility
In Greece, in partnership with the Karatzis Group of Companies, METLEN has developed the largest standalone battery energy storage facility planned in the country to date — and one of the largest in Europe. Located in Thessaly, the project has a capacity of 330 MW and an installed battery storage capacity of 790 MWh.
The facility’s capacity has now been integrated into the national electricity transmission system, marking a significant milestone on the path to full commercial operation and participation in grid ancillary services.
In addition, a 48 MW / 96 MWh battery energy storage project was recently completed in Polygyros, Chalkidiki, in Central Macedonia. The “Aenaos” project was implemented under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0,” with funding from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU instrument.
