Salamina is counting the damage left behind by the wildfire, as building inspection teams have completed their assessments of fire-affected structures in the Aeantio area. A total of 22 buildings were inspected — including residential properties, commercial spaces, and warehouses — with five classified as “red” (unsafe), ten as “yellow” (partially safe), and seven as “green” (safe). Meanwhile, authorities are prioritizing the expediting of compensation procedures and state aid for those affected.

Building inspections in Salamina
A total of 22 buildings were assessed in Aeantio, with seven classified as green, ten as yellow, and five as red. Here is the full breakdown of buildings recorded during the inspection in Salamina:
– Residential buildings: 16 total — 7 green, 6 yellow, and 3 red.
– Commercial premises: 3 total — all 3 yellow.
– Churches and public buildings: no fire-affected structures recorded.
– Other structures (warehouses, stables, etc.): 3 total — 1 yellow and 2 red.
It is worth noting that Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, responsible for state aid matters, Kostas Katsafados, had previously stated that compensation procedures would move quickly in order to restore normality to the area. “Our priority is speed — compensation and restoring normality to the area as quickly as possible,” he said, among other remarks.


427 building inspections completed across fire-affected regions nationwide
The operational readiness of the State Aid services and relevant authorities is reflected in the number of inspections carried out over the past few days.
Inspection teams completed 427 assessments across fire-affected areas of the country within a single week, deploying to each region based on emerging needs.
The inspections are distributed as follows:
– Achaia — municipalities of Aegialia and Western Achaia: 19 inspections — 3 green, 16 yellow, 0 red.
– Argolida — municipality of Argos-Mykines: 14 inspections — 2 green, 10 yellow, 2 red.
– Boeotia — municipality of Thebes: 14 inspections — 1 green, 6 yellow, 7 red.
– Western Attica — municipalities of Mandra-Eidyllia and Megara: 293 inspections — 93 green, 89 yellow, 111 red.
– Rethymno — municipalities of Agios Vasileios and Siteia: 70 inspections — 31 green, 14 yellow, 25 red.
– Phocis — municipalities of Delphi and Doris: 17 inspections — 1 green, 10 yellow, 6 red.
Out of the 427 total inspections, 131 buildings were classified as green, 145 as yellow, and 151 as red.
In addition, a total of 311 residential re-inspections were carried out, with the regional breakdown as follows:
– Achaia — municipalities of Aegialia and Western Achaia: 3 homes — 1 green, 2 yellow.
– Argolida — municipality of Argos-Mykines: 5 homes — 2 green, 1 yellow, 2 red.
– Boeotia — municipality of Thebes: 4 homes — 1 green, 3 yellow.
– Western Attica — municipalities of Mandra-Eidyllia and Megara: 261 homes — 92 green, 68 yellow, 101 red.
– Rethymno — municipalities of Agios Vasileios and Siteia: 28 homes — 13 green, 5 yellow, 10 red.
– Phocis — municipalities of Delphi and Doris: 10 homes — 1 green, 6 yellow, 3 red.
In total, the residential re-inspections recorded 110 green, 85 yellow, and 116 red homes.


Inspections ongoing in Eastern Mani
The process of recording and assessing the impact of the flood that struck Eastern Mani on August 15, 2026, is fully underway.
In the municipality of Eastern Mani — specifically in the municipal community of Oitylo — teams from the General Directorate for the Restoration of Natural Disaster Impacts (GDRNDI) have conducted a total of 27 inspections to accurately document the condition of buildings and map out the damage sustained.
The inspection results are as follows:
12 green buildings
8 yellow buildings
0 red buildings
In commercial premises, 5 green and 1 yellow building were recorded, with no red classifications identified.
In the public buildings category, 1 green building was recorded, while the miscellaneous structures category also yielded 1 green building. Inspections in Eastern Mani will continue tomorrow, with the goal of completing the assessment across all affected areas and establishing a full, documented picture of the extent of the damage.
Deputy minister Katsafados to visit Chalkidiki
On Wednesday, August 19, Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Kostas Katsafados, accompanied by the Secretary General for Natural Disaster Restoration and State Aid Petros Kampouris, will travel to Chalkidiki for meetings with local authorities and regional stakeholders.
The visit follows the wildfire that broke out in Kassandra on August 13, and aims to provide an immediate update on the current situation, the progress of building inspections, and the needs that have been identified on the ground.
GDRNDI teams have already begun initial inspections in the municipal community of Kassandreia. To date, 9 inspections have been completed, with 2 buildings classified as green and 7 as yellow, while no structures have been placed in the red category. Teams remain on the ground to complete the damage assessment and promptly evaluate any emerging needs.
As part of the visit, a broad meeting will be held at the Kassandra Town Hall, with the participation of the Mayor, members of the Municipal Council, regional representatives, and local stakeholders. The agenda will cover the assessment of the current situation, the progress of inspections and damage recording, and the next steps for activating state aid and restoration procedures without delay.
