A serious road accident on the Athens-Lamia highway ended in tragedy early Saturday morning, at the 123rd kilometer mark on the Athens-bound lane, just past the Martino bridge. Under circumstances still under investigation, two trucks collided violently — one overturning off the road and the other slamming into a concrete barrier before bursting into flames.
One driver killed, one truck completely destroyed by fire
Firefighters extracted the driver of the overturned vehicle unconscious from the wreckage — he was subsequently confirmed dead at the scene. His co-driver sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the second truck, a Bulgarian national, narrowly escaped with his life, managing to exit the cab just seconds before the vehicle was completely consumed by fire.
