A car chase resembling a movie scene unfolded on Wednesday afternoon (June 24) in Varkiza, when a suspicious vehicle being sought by the Hellenic Police following a citizen’s fraud complaint was spotted by local security officers. According to reports, the citizen had provided police with a description of the vehicle, which officers located in the area shortly after. The driver not only refused to stop when signaled by police, but accelerated, triggering a full pursuit.

Thriller in Varkiza: The vehicle’s reckless run — suspects vanish on foot
The vehicle’s reckless journey came to an end outside a Veneti store, on the lane heading toward Sounio, when the car collided with another vehicle and a van. Immediately after the crash, three occupants abandoned the vehicle and disappeared on foot in the direction of the beach area.
Upon searching the car, officers discovered a large sum of cash wrapped in aluminum foil — a detail strongly suggesting the suspects may be linked to a well-known fraud scheme in which perpetrators pose as DEDDIE (Greek electricity grid operator) employees, pressuring elderly residents into handing over valuables and money under the false pretense of preventing an electrical short circuit. According to the same sources, the vehicle does not currently appear to be stolen or linked to any other case.
Police reinforcements rushed to the scene, and a full-scale operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the individuals who fled.
