An armed incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday (23/5) in the Mikrolimano area of Piraeus, outside a store. During a patrol by officers from the Anti-Extortion Unit of DAOE, a man believed to be a known local “enforcer” was shot by police officers after he threatened them with a weapon.
According to information, the Anti-Extortion Unit officers spotted the man during their patrol and approached on foot, calling for him to stop for inspection. He moved in the opposite direction, forcing the officers to openly call for him to halt. The same sources note that the foreign national turned toward them and brandished a weapon. The officers at the scene took cover and one of them fired, hitting the suspect in the head area, specifically in the face near the ear.
An ambulance was immediately called and the wounded man was transported alive and conscious to Attikon Hospital. He is expected to undergo surgery shortly. According to police sources, near the man and in his possession was found a bag containing grenades, as well as three firearms. A team from the Explosive Device Disposal Unit has arrived at the scene and the area on Delaveri Coast has been cordoned off.
