Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will embark on a diplomatic marathon starting Monday as he visits New York to participate in the 80th high-level week of the UN General Assembly. The program includes a series of meetings with leaders, participation in events, critical discussions, and his speech at the UN podium on Friday, September 26.
Mitsotakis meetings and contacts with world leaders
According to government sources, in his speech Mr. Mitsotakis will address the fluid international environment, Greece’s position as a pillar of stability, and geopolitical challenges from Ukraine to the Middle East.
On Tuesday, September 23, the Prime Minister will attend the reception hosted by US President Donald Trump in honor of world leaders. The same day he will hold private meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, and Yemen President Rashad Al-Alimi.
On Monday morning, the Prime Minister will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at United Nations headquarters.
On Wednesday, September 24, the program includes two UN interventions: at Australia’s event on child protection in the digital age and at the central event of the Korean Security Council Presidency on “Artificial Intelligence and International Peace and Security”.
Interventions, awards and economic meetings for Mitsotakis in New York
On Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Mitsotakis will attend a Greek diaspora lunch co-organized by 28 diaspora organizations, while in the evening he will deliver a message at the award ceremony for Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew receiving the Templeton Prize.
During his stay in the United States, he will hold a series of meetings with investors and companies active in sectors such as energy, defense and pharmaceuticals, promoting the investment prospects of the Greek economy.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will participate in discussions with international media. On Wednesday, he will take part in a Wall Street Journal discussion titled “Is Greece back?”, while on Friday, September 26, he will give a live interview to Bloomberg.
