The upgrade of the Fire Academy, aimed at improving the educational process to meet modern requirements of Civil Protection, as well as strengthening cooperation on training, prevention and response to natural disasters, were at the center of a working meeting between Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki and Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Yannis Kefalogiannis.
It was announced that 120 cabins from the Education Ministry’s camps in Nea Makri will be made available, for the first time, to accommodate 120 Fire Service personnel from late September to October 15. This represents a small token of recognition for the contribution of Fire Service personnel and their families. This initiative will be implemented on a pilot basis this year, marking a new practice of supporting Fire Service human resources and strengthening cooperation between the two ministries.
Zacharaki-Kefalogiannis meeting: Agreement reached on introducing disaster preparedness handbook in schools
During the meeting between the two ministers, they agreed to introduce an educational handbook targeting primary and secondary school students, aimed at informing and raising awareness about natural disaster risks such as earthquakes, fires and floods. This handbook will serve as a basic tool for prevention and education in the school environment, strengthening the cultivation of a preparedness culture from an early age.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to continue and strengthen initiatives that unite Education with Civil Protection.
