Yet another tragedy on the road, as a fatal car accident occurred on Fyli Avenue in the early hours of Tuesday (25/8). A young girl, just 17 years old, lost her life in the devastating crash.
The tragic accident took place shortly after the Fyli exit, in the direction of Ano Liossia. According to initial reports, a private vehicle carrying a group of five young people veered off the road under circumstances that remain unclear at this time.
The car initially struck the curb, causing damage to the pavement, before continuing out of control and slamming into a streetlight pole. The force of the impact was so violent that the pole bent and essentially collapsed.
The sheer force of the collision sent parts of the vehicle flying several meters from the scene, while the car itself sustained extensive and severe damage.
There were 3 girls and 2 boys in the vehicle. The 17-year-old lost her life, while the other 4 occupants were lightly injured and transported to hospital.
A large emergency response was immediately deployed at the scene, with firefighters working to free the passengers from the wreckage. Ambulances from the National Emergency Medical Service (EKAB) also assisted in the operation.
A total of five people were taken to hospital. Among them was the 17-year-old, who, despite the efforts of medical personnel, could not be saved and succumbed to her serious injuries.
Three other young people, aged between 18 and 22, were also injured and remain hospitalized. Based on information available so far, their condition is not considered life-threatening and they are out of danger.
The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation. Authorities are examining the circumstances under which the driver lost control of the vehicle, with excessive speed being among the factors that will be investigated.
