Agios Dimitrios stabbing: Suspect sent to Korydallos psychiatric unit — what the attacker and victim are saying
According to reports, despite persistent questioning by police about what took place on Menelaou Street and the attack on the young man, the 23-year-old suspect repeatedly responded with the phrase “I don’t remember anything.” Following his court appearance, it was decided that he would be transferred to the psychiatric unit of Korydallos Prison. Meanwhile, the victim gave his own account of what happened on the afternoon of last Tuesday.
“I was walking down the street and saw him coming out of an apartment building. I realized he was following me and he started saying something to me, but I didn’t pay attention. He approached me, told me to hand over whatever I had, and then immediately attacked me,” the 18-year-old recounted. The suspect’s side — noting that he has no prior criminal record — claims that the alleged perpetrator suffers from psychological problems. Police are now investigating whether this is the case or whether the motive was robbery. So far, no personal dispute between the two has been identified.
Agios Dimitrios stabbing: “I want him punished,” the victim’s father says
In the coming 24 hours, once the 18-year-old has recovered sufficiently from his head and back wounds, he is expected to be called in to give a formal statement. His father has not left his side and has made clear his desire to see the attacker brought to justice. “My son called me because I usually drive him to training. I dropped him off in the morning, around 7, at the sports ground — he trained until 8 and then we came home. I had gone out, and at 5 in the afternoon he had walked to training on his own. It happened just 500 meters before he got there. He managed to find his phone and call me,” the victim’s father said.
