Firefighters have been locked in a fierce battle against the flames in Kompoti, Arta, joined by local residents who rushed to the scene on their own initiative to help contain the blaze. Among them was a 73-year-old man who arrived at the site and did everything he could to help fight the fire. Speaking to Mega’s camera, he stressed that despite his age, he refuses to give up — and that he was moved to act because people he cares about live in the area.

“I’m 73 years old and I’m here to help put out the fire. I live in Arta, but the people I love live here. We were worried, so we came to help. I’m active, and I don’t feel tired or old,” he said.
