Democratic Representative Dina Titus has introduced the first official congressional move to block the proposed General Electric engine sale to Turkey in the United States House of Representatives, triggering the joint resolution of disapproval process.
The initiative targets the notification sent by the US government to Congress regarding the sale, valued at approximately $700 million, which is linked to Turkey’s KAAN fighter jet development program.
Rep. Titus argues that such a technology transfer to Turkey could further destabilize the Eastern Mediterranean and bolster the military capabilities of a country that, as she notes, has repeatedly issued threats against US and NATO allies.
