The ANT1 broadcast reported that a neighbor was alerted by the noise and came out of his home, where he discovered the officer dead. The neighbor, a doctor by profession, immediately recognized it as a suicide and contacted both the ambulance service (EKAB) and the police. Sources indicated that the officers who rushed to the scene were members of the 50-year-old’s own operational unit.
Femicide in Drama: “There were many problems in the family”
The psychologist of the 45-year-old female police officer who was murdered described the character of the 50-year-old perpetrator. “We had a few sessions together. I work as a counseling psychologist. I was in shock. I had been seeing her for a few months, since February. We met almost every week. Toward the end, sometimes every two weeks. The man was not treating her right. At first they were still living together for a period. Then he eventually accepted it and left on his own. I had actually thought he wouldn’t leave the house and had suggested to her that she be the one to find somewhere else to go. As in — find yourself a place and move out. Don’t wait for him, because with behavior like that, I didn’t think he would leave,” she said.
“His manipulative nature was evident. He took his things and went to his mother’s. He would insult her, belittle her. She had no real presence in the relationship. He would come by, from what she told me, every now and then to see their son, who is 17. He would find various excuses to come to the house. She wanted to leave whenever he showed up. The last time I saw her, she told me he had come to the house. He wasn’t doing well. He was telling her — begging her, really — to take him back. That he couldn’t bear to be away from her. That she should reconsider, because he couldn’t live without her. The typical things you hear in cases like these,” the psychologist said.
“There were many problems in the family, between the two of them. I had told her — because she mentioned there had been some threats from him in the period after he had moved out — to report it to the police. She told me she had done so. She said she had already filed a report with the police,” she added.
