Greek police investigations continued into the early hours of Sunday morning at the intersection of Kallidromio and Benaki streets in Exarchia, following the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man on Saturday evening (13/6). The incident occurred on the steps leading to Strefi Hill, with local residents reporting they heard at least five consecutive gunshots.

According to witness testimonies gathered by police authorities, the perpetrator fled toward Strefi Hill, while the area was immediately cordoned off by strong police forces. The motives for the attack remain unknown, with authorities examining all possibilities, including the scenario of a score-settling murder.





Athens shooting: Heartbreaking image of dog staying beside 35-year-old victim
The victim of the armed attack was known in the area and was accustomed to walking around with his small dog. According to reports, the 35-year-old was struck by five or six bullets to the head and chest from a 9mm caliber weapon, while his dog was beside him during the attack.
When police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed his death, they found the animal hiding under the deceased’s arm. Despite attempts by those present to move it away, the dog remained beside its owner, visibly shocked.
Initially there were reports that the animal had been wounded by gunfire, however it was determined that it bore no injuries. Local residents expressed interest in taking care of the dog, with police referring them to the Exarchia Police Station to follow the prescribed procedure.
