UK fire at Hertfordshire entertainment center kills mini zoo animals

Tragedy was caused by a fire that broke out in Britain, specifically in the Watermill area of Buntingford, Hertfordshire. The mini zoo, called “The Jungle Box”, which opened a year ago in June 2025 and where the fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday, June 11, was consumed by flames, along with the animals that were housed in one section. The animals – meerkats, owls, iguanas, giant tortoises and a 5-meter-long snake – died, according to a Mirror report citing the local Fire Service. Deputy Fire Chief Darren Cook said: “In the early morning hours we received calls about a significant fire at “The Jungle Box” in Buntingford. Crews worked hard to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings. I would like to thank all crews for their professionalism and hard work, as well as our fire control center colleagues for their calm and effective call management. We can confirm that animals inside the building at the time of the fire did not survive.”
