The testimony of the 41-year-old confessed killer in the femicide case in Kalamata revealed various discrepancies compared to his earlier claims, with evidence from authorities apparently forcing him to change his defense strategy. According to ERT information, the defendant abandoned his initial claim of self-defense. Instead, during his testimony he allegedly argued that an intense argument preceded the incident, followed by the murder of the woman.
Femicide in Kalamata: Authorities’ findings
The 39-year-old woman was found dead with 45 stab wounds. The knife was discovered placed in the woman’s left hand, despite her being right-handed, while a glove was also found at the scene. Additionally, blood was discovered on the main electrical switch.
While he initially claimed that his wife had turned off the main switch, during his testimony he allegedly argued that the circuit breaker had tripped. The investigation appears to have led authorities to conclude that several of the defendant’s initial claims were false.
The recording device and hard drive
According to ERT, the recordings made by his wife hold particular significance in the case file. The 41-year-old allegedly admitted that the night before the murder, he destroyed the recording device. This admission came after police discovered a hard drive containing audio recordings. The 41-year-old allegedly claimed that the recordings were not intended to control her personal life, but were related to his relationship with his children.
Testimonies about the couple’s relationship
Additionally, although they were experiencing marital problems, one day before the crime they had all gone to the beach together. Witness testimonies revealed that he did not want their relationship to end definitively. At the same time, the 41-year-old allegedly claimed that the couple was already separated.
It should be noted that the 41-year-old was remanded in custody. After a marathon testimony session, during which the man claimed that the murder of the 39-year-old in Kalamata was not premeditated, he was taken to prison. Outside the Kalamata courthouse, women had gathered since morning regarding the case and condemned the perpetrator when he arrived by patrol car.
