Child pornography and international cooperation between law enforcement agencies are behind the case that led to the arrest of a 62-year-old man in Peristeri by officers from the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate. The investigation began following information that reached Greek authorities through international cooperation networks and as part of coordinated operations conducted globally to identify individuals involved in the trafficking and sharing of child sexual abuse material. According to the Greek Police, during the operation carried out at the defendant’s residence, hundreds of video files containing child sexual exploitation material were discovered, while it emerged that the 62-year-old had previously been of interest to law enforcement for similar crimes. The case is considered particularly serious and falls within the broader framework of international efforts to combat crimes concerning the protection of minors on the internet.
The investigation began to unfold through information transmitted to Greek authorities from relevant services in the United States, South Africa, and Spain. This information was part of international operations called “Operation KAMI” and “Operation Python,” which aim to identify internet users allegedly involved in trafficking child sexual abuse material.
Child pornography: How authorities tracked down the 62-year-old
After receiving the information, extensive digital analysis followed by specialized officers from the Cybercrime Division. The process included technical data processing and online investigation, in cooperation with relevant services from countries participating in the case. Through this process, it became possible to identify the details of the alleged perpetrator and locate his residence in Peristeri.
Police authorities then proceeded to plan an operation to collect evidence and conduct a search of the premises. On Wednesday morning, June 3rd, the operation was carried out at the 62-year-old’s home. During the search, two mobile phones and one microSD memory card were seized, which are considered crucial for investigating the case.
Child pornography: What was found in the digital evidence
According to information released by the Greek Police, on-site examination of the seized digital media revealed hundreds of video files containing child sexual exploitation material. As reported, these files primarily depicted children under 15 years of age. The discovery of this material became key evidence for the filed case, while authorities are examining all data found on the digital media to determine the extent of the activity and any further connections.
Particular weight is given to the fact that, according to the Greek Police, the 62-year-old had previously been of interest to authorities for similar crimes and had been temporarily detained in the past. The seized media will be sent to the Criminological Research Directorate, where detailed laboratory examination will be conducted by specialized experts. Through further analysis, authorities are expected to search for additional evidence that could illuminate aspects of the case or lead to the identification of new involved persons.
The 62-year-old was arrested and brought before the competent prosecutorial authority, while the investigation remains ongoing. Meanwhile, Greek services continue their cooperation with international bodies and law enforcement agencies from other countries within the framework of operations aimed at combating the sexual exploitation of minors through the internet.
