Outside the courthouse in Kalamata, the lawyer representing the confessed killer of a 39-year-old woman, Georgios Kamvysis, made statements regarding his client’s condition. Mr. Kamvysis claimed that the defendant bears visible signs of abuse on his face, including bruises and contusions under his eyes.
“In my personal judgment, this man had been attacked,” he stated characteristically, attempting to shape the climate for the perpetrator’s defense line. The accused took his wife’s life inside their home while their children were in the next room.
Kalamata – killer’s lawyer: “I encountered a human wreck”
Continuing his statements, the lawyer described his client as a “human wreck.” He also announced that the defendant’s side will request the standard three-day deadline to study the case file and prepare the defense statement.
It’s worth noting that Mr. Kamvysis avoided answering persistent questions from journalists about reports suggesting the perpetrator placed a knife in the victim’s hand after the crime, in an attempt to stage self-defense.
Testimonies of systematic abuse
Meanwhile, authorities are collecting statements from the 39-year-old’s family and social circle, which outline a history of abusive behavior by her husband. Although the unfortunate woman’s circle confirms the violence she endured, she had never filed an official police report. Additionally, the couple’s neighbors testified that recently the arguments between them had intensified dangerously.
The official results of the forensic report are expected to be made public and will be immediately incorporated into the case file. The information available so far is shocking, as it indicates the 39-year-old suffered multiple knife wounds, receiving one blow to the back, two to the chest, and one fatal strike to the neck.
Children hospitalized, undergoing toxicological tests
Regarding the children of both perpetrator and victim, two girls aged approximately 6 and 10 respectively, they are being cared for at Kalamata Hospital. Given that during the house search, police found anti-anxiety and sedative pills, and the children appeared to be sleeping when the crime was committed – which alarmed the neighborhood – the children will undergo toxicological tests. This is to determine whether the perpetrator had drugged the two girls so they wouldn’t wake up from their mother’s screams.
Furthermore, the prosecutor’s order is awaited regarding who will assume custody of the children, given that the perpetrator – barring any shocking developments – will be sent to prison after his testimony. The most likely candidate to assume custody is the 39-year-old woman’s sister.
