Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen appeared optimistic but not reassured about the Greenland issue and US claims in his recent statements. He noted that the crisis “is not over” regarding Donald Trump’s demands for acquiring the Arctic island. “The crisis is not over and we don’t have a solution yet,” the minister said during a press conference in Nuuk, the capital of the autonomous Danish territory, adding: “We are in a much better position now than we were a few weeks ago.” However, he emphasized that there is no “threat on the table” and “no trade war with Europe.” For her part, Greenland’s counterpart, Vivian Motzfeldt, stated on Saturday, February 7th that while it is positive that talks with the US continue, they are not yet at the point where Greenland would like them to be, making it too early to predict where they will lead. “We’re not yet where we want to be. It will be a long journey, so where we’ll end up, it’s too early to say,” Vivian Motzfeldt said in a joint press conference in Nuuk with her Danish and Canadian counterparts.
