The intention of farmers from Eastern Thessaloniki and Halkidiki to block “Macedonia” airport in Thessaloniki was reported by journalist Virginia Dimaresi from Status FM 107.7 on the Midday Magazine show of Parapolitika 90.1.
As the journalist said, yesterday a meeting took place between farmers from Thessaloniki and Halkidiki at the Grand Municipal Theater of Epanomi, which saw massive participation and as Ms. Dimaresi said, conveying testimonies from farmers, “people were filled with rage and anger.” Indeed, the farmers expressed their intention to close the airport. According to the journalist’s testimony, the president of the Agricultural Cooperative of Trilofo, Christos Tsilias, reportedly stated: “We will get as close as possible to the airport, because if we close the Green Lights junction, we essentially close our own villages. We don’t want to close either Moudanion or Mihanionas roads.”
“The information we have, because until now, as you understand, the scenario is a bit unclear and the situation changes from minute to minute, is that they will close the airport tomorrow possibly after 12 noon. And we’re saying this so that people traveling through Thessaloniki airport are aware. Yesterday afternoon this decision was made at the meeting of farmers from Thessaloniki and Halkidiki. So we’re talking about a very serious escalation if Thessaloniki airport is closed,” she emphasized.
